Follow The Rabbi Devotional | Day 21
A famous writer once asked: "What is in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". His point was that who you are is more important than what you are called. But when it comes to Jesus, who he is matters as much as his name!
You see, the name Jesus in Hebrew is 'Yeshua', which literally means "to rescue" or "salvation". So when Jesus goes to the house of a tax collector named Zacchaeus and says "today salvation has come to this house" … Jesus was using a pun because 'salvation' (Yeshua) literally was in Zacchaeus’ house that day.
We all have a name. Our name identifies us and can even define our credibility and reputation. But the scriptures say there is only one name that can shine light in the darkness, bring hope to the hopeless and heal the brokenhearted.
This name is our salvation!
How would your life change if your identity and reputation was built on the name of Jesus?
For reflection:
Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. - Luke 19:9
